“Thousands of citizens participated yesterday evening [July 17, 2018] in a rally to thwart ‘the deal of the century’ (refers to US President Donald Trump’s as yet unpublished Middle East peace plan –Ed.) at Al-Shuhada Square (i.e., the Square of the Martyrs) in the center of Nablus…
Nablus District Governor Akram Al-Rajoub gave a speech on behalf of President Mahmoud Abbas, in which he said… that the president… says ‘no’ to America, ‘no’ to Trump – to whom [even] large states are unable to say ‘no’ – and ‘no’ to the deal of the century, which fell the moment the Palestinian people told it ‘no’… He emphasized that the PA will not abandon the prisoners and the Martyrs’ families, and will continue to pay their salaries (rawatib) and the money that they deserve… Fatah Movement Deputy Chairman [and Fatah Central Committee member] Mahmoud Al-Aloul said that the Palestinian people has turned the deal of the century into a slap on the cheek of the US, because [the Americans] do not understand that is impossible for the Palestinian people’s willpower to be broken… Al-Aloul also calmed the prisoners’ families and the Martyrs’ families, and said: ‘We will not abandon you. Your children have paid a heavy price for freedom, and your salaries will continue as they are.’”
Note: US President Donald Trump was burnt in effigy at this event.
