Head of PLO body for Martyrs’ families and prisoners: Israeli deduction of terror salaries from PA tax transfers is “illegal and constitutes an act of robbery, state terror,” payments are “welfare money” and will continue

      “Chairwoman of the [PLO] Families of the Martyrs and Wounded Institution Intisar Al-Wazir condemned the Israeli Parliament’s decision to deduct the allowances (mukhassasat) of the families of the Martyrs (Shahids) and the prisoners from the PA’s tax money (sic., the Israeli Parliament Committee on Security and Foreign Affairs passed a bill to the Israeli Parliament for final voting), and considered this an inhumane act that harms the lives and livelihood of thousands of Palestinian families that have lost their provider and struggled and sacrificed the lives of their sons and their freedom in order to resist the occupation. Al-Wazir added that this action of deduction is illegal and constitutes an act of robbery, state terror, and a new way for the occupation to subjugate the Palestinians and eliminate their legal rights that are anchored in international law and norms.
Al-Wazir emphasized that the allowances of the Martyrs’ families, the wounded, and the prisoners are welfare money that are meant to strengthen the society and defend it from extremism and deviance… Al-Wazir calmed the families of the Martyrs and the prisoners regarding the continued payment of their allowances, and emphasized that the institutions working in this sector are continuing their work, and the occupation’s steps do not deter them from carrying out the humanitarian and social work…”
